Group Class Descriptions

Puppy Head Start (less than 6 months old) 

Cost $125 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • This is the most critical learning period of a dog's life because they learn the fastest and adapt best to new experiences.
  • Class will address common puppy issues, including Housebreaking, Crate Training, Play Biting and Dominance, and Nutrition.
  • Gives puppies a firm foundation in behavior and socialization by teaching healthy socialization with other dogs and people.

NOTE: Vaccination Requirement for this training
We WILL allow puppies into the Puppy Head Start program ONLY with 2 full sets of puppy vaccinations. This is ONLY for this training class, not boarding, daycare or grooming.

Basic Obedience & Manners (no age requirement) 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes / 1st class is for humans only)

  • Upbeat class designed around solving dog obedience and behavior issues and working on your dog's manners for daily living.
  • Class addresses the basics: control, attention, interaction with others (people and pets), focus, and behavior problems.
  • We will also work on mastering the exercises to prepare for the Canine Good Citizen Test, including, sit, stay, come, heel through crowds, distractions, separation from owner, and attention from strangers.

Hollywood Dog™ - for the dog waiting to be discovered! 

Cost $175 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Learn what you need to know to break into show biz.
  • Common skills/tricks that producers look for and sending your dog to a mark to perform.
  • How to quickly train a trick that you don't know, if requested on set, and how to build new tricks from known commands.
  • You will also receive talent agent contacts and have a photo session on graduation day for your portfolio.

Intermediate Puppy Class – build upon your puppy’s success 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Here's your chance to work with your puppy to earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction! All dogs need the necessary components of the program including Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible owner.
  • We will continue training and prevention of the most common puppy behaviors, such as housebreaking, crate training, play bite and dominance, socialization with people and other dogs, and proper nutrition.
  • Gives puppies a firm foundation in behavior and socialization by continuing to work on healthy socialization with other dogs and people, and will expand their horizons by adding different sizes and ages of dogs and more environmental changes.
  • There will be a test during the final class - all those that pass will earn AKC's S.T.A.R. Puppy Award!

Intermediate Obedience & Manners - continuing training for the busy pet owner! 

Cost $175 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • We will work on real-life manners and skills - can your dog walk nicely on a loose leash while you carry in groceries or lay quietly while you set the bag down and put them away? Learn skills to help keep your family sane!
  • Loose leash walking, off-leash obedience, attention when spoken to, come when called, polite greetings and interaction with family and strangers
  • Behavior problems - reactivity to humans or animals, destructive behavior, guarding resources or territory, barking, shy or timid dogs
  • Obedience and foundation skills for dog sports - Agility, Flyball, freestyle, Rally, etc. and/or Hollywood Dog? skills

Shy Dog Class - for dogs that are a bit overwhelmed by the world around them 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Designed to help the dog that is afraid to approach everyday items in their environment or are intimidated by people or other dogs.
  • Shy Dog Class will show you how to safely manage and support your fearful dog and give you insight into your dog's fears.
  • We will use reward based training and desensitization to help you build your dog's confidence and create a positive environment to ease his fears.
  • This class will is not appropriate for reactive or aggressive dogs - instructor evaluation or referral is required.

Reactive Dog™ Class 

Cost $150 (4 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Here's a chance to work on your reactive dog's obedience and issues. This class will be set up to help your dog succeed while you work on your training goals.
  • Each handler sets specific goals for the work sessions and each dog will have a training path based on these goals and individual progress made.
  • Each dog must be privately evaluated by the instructor prior to signing up for this class. Reactive dogs may not be ready for a class setting and may need private instruction to get them prepared for the class environment. Contact TAMIam@training-spot.net to schedule an evaluation.

Pre-Sports - what are Dog Sports and are they for you and your dog? 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Are you interested in dog sports, but just can't decide? Would you like to know more about activities can get involved in?
  • Learn foundation skills for Flyball, Agility, Frisbee, and Freestyle - students practice control commands and progress to sports-specific commands.
  • You will learn to increase and maintain your dog's focus in high-distraction environments, sample active dog sports, and have fun.
  • Students will be taught the meaning of motivation and drive to enhance their dog's natural strengths of jumping, running, retrieving, and play and get to work on some equipment.

Agility Foundations 

Cost $175 (8 weeks / 1st class is for humans only, 50 minutes)

  • This class teaches dogs and handlers foundation behaviors needed to succeed in the sport of agility.
  • This class is for dogs and handlers that have had Basic Obedience or Shaping 101 (or instructor approval). Dog/Handler teams learn basic skills such as crate games, loose leash walking, sit, stay, down, come, nose touch, interacting with objects, circle work (shadow handling), and tug.
  • Dogs will also be introduced to beginner agility obstacles such as the tunnel, wobble board, and jumps.

Freestyle Dancing 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • A fun class that will teach you to boogie down with your dog - big, little, young and old – no prior dancing skills required.
  • Learn to take advantage of your dog’s natural movements and choreograph to music. You will play off of natural movements and talents such as spins, figure 8's, jumping, backing up and rolling over.

Therapy Dog Primer 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • A class for people and dogs that want to volunteer time with animal assisted activities.
  • This class introduces the fundamental skills required to pass therapy dog testing.
  • We will focus on socialization, paying attention to the handler, touching by strangers, “no jumping”, walking on a loose leash, working in distracting environments, relaxing while being petted and confidence around people with unstable movements.
  • Dogs are assessed for ability to pass therapy dog testing requirements.

Scent Works 101PET 

Cost $175 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • This class focuses on teaching your dog to locate a specific odor on command and includes scent imprinting on a single target odor (essential oil), command association, pinpointing, and teaching the alert behavior.
  • Each week we will practice exercises and scenarios to build your dog’s foundation in utilizing his sense of smell to find a target odor.
  • Dogs of all sizes, breeds, and skill levels are welcome. This class is great for building confidence in shy dogs or teaching focus in dogs that are easily distracted.

Circus Dog 101 

Cost $175 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Earn Trick Dog titles with your dog and have skills to entertain your friends and family!
  • During the last session of Circus Dog classes, you will show off tricks and skills your dog has learned and the instructor will be your witness as you work towards a trick dog title. There are lots of skills and tricks to choose from so you can tailor your performance to suit your dog?s abilities.
  • This class will teach dogs various tricks, with and without the use of props, utilizing clicker training.
  • No prior training required.

Circus Dog 201 

Cost $175 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • This class is for dogs that already understand shaping and targeting.
  • This class will teach the dogs upper level tricks and behavior sequences with and without the use of props utilizing clicker training.
  • Prior training required: clicker training, shaping, and targeting.
  • Work towards Trick Dog titles (intermediate and advanced).

Beginning Flyball 

Cost $150 (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • Flyball is a dog sport in which two teams of four dogs race against each other and the clock. The race is composed of heats in which each of the four dogs are required to jump hurdles, trigger a box that deploys a ball, catch the ball and then retrieve the ball successfully and in order.
  • Dogs that excel at this sport are energetic, focused, and have the desire to retrieve, but any dog can play - any size breed/mixed breeds welcome.
  • This class will teach the principles of motivation without force and technical aspects of the sport, including sequence jumping, ball retrieval, and proper box turns. Dogs should have a working knowledge of the basic obedience commands to participate.

Agility Fundamentals (6 months and older) - Rockwall 

Cost $125 (5 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • An introduction to the sport of agility with fundamentals taught to handler and dog
  • Skills such as sit, down, stay, come when called, and loose leash walking will be honed
  • Tools for building agility fundamentals such as wobble board, jumps, targets, table and clicker will be introduced

Basic Manners (no age requirement) - Rockwall 

Cost $125 (5 weeks, 50 minutes)

  • An introduction to the sport of agility with fundamentals taught to handler and dog
  • Skills such as sit, down, stay, come when called, and loose leash walking will be honed

Workshops

Click-N-Trick - the building blocks for Hollywood Dog, Agility Foundations, and other fun activities 

Cost $50 (2 hours)

  • Click-N-Trick introduces you and your dog to the art of shaping behaviors using a clicker.
  • Shaping teaches your dog to think and encourages them to offer behaviors, which are the building blocks of Tricks and skills for them to learn.
  • We will work through different exercises in this 2 hour session and then you will go home and continue teaching your dog the “fun” in learning.
  • This class is for dogs and handlers of all skill levels.

Shy Dog - designed for the dogs that are a bit overwhelmed by the world around them

Cost $50 (2 hours)

  • Designed to help the dog that is afraid to approach everyday items in their environment or are intimidated by people or other dogs.

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Prep 

Cost $50 (2 hours)


During this 2 hour workshop, you will practice the 10 steps covered in the CGC exam, and will have a chance to work on any areas where you are having difficulty.

There will be scheduled CGC Test (cost $25) to follow this workshop. You are not required to take the Prep Workshop to take the test - please email TAMIam@training-spot.net to reserve a testing slot.

Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

The 10 exercises covered in the exam are:

  • Greeting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Grooming (allowing someone to run a brush down the back of the dog, allow someone to touch his or her paws and ears)
  • Loose leash walking
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Stay
  • Coming when called
  • Reaction to other dogs
  • Reaction to distractions
  • Supervised separation

House Training 101 - get started right! 

Cost $50 (2 hours)

  • Learn what to expect from your new family member in this 2 hour workshop.
  • You will learn the basics of house training, what to expect from your new puppy from a physiology perspective and how to set them up for success.
  • Crate training, paper training and establishing a routine are covered in this session.

Family Manners - new dog, old dog – doesn't matter – training can be fun AND successful! 

Cost $50 (2 hours)

This is a workshop designed around solving dog obedience and behavior issues and working on your dog’s manners for daily living.

Issues covered (in separate workshops):

  • House-soiling / Anxiety Issues / Guarding Food, Toys, or People / Destructiveness / Separation Problems
  • Barking / Fearfulness / Reactivity / Child & dog issues (biting, scratching, pulling clothing)
  • Basic Manners (jumping up, counter-surfing, etc) / Leash Manners (pulling, lunging)
  • Choosing the right puppy/rescue for your family / Preparing home for the new Puppy / Preparing your dog for your new Baby
  • Introducing Dogs & Cats / Multi-dog Households

This Family Manners Workshop will cover the following problems:

  • Basic Manners (jumping up, counter-surfing, etc)
  • Leash Manners (pulling, lunging)
  • Recall / Come (door bolting, running away, not coming when called)

Scent Works Workshop 

Cost $80 (2 hours)

  • Are you interested in scent detection but not sure what type to explore? Learn about different types of scent detection (Just for Fun/Competition, SAR, Tracking, Hunting/Pet Detection, Cadaver, Contraband, Pest Detection, etc) and how to tell which is best for your dog.
  • Learn imprinting techniques for a single target odor & command association.
  • Understand the basics of scent theory, reading K9 body language, types of alert behaviors, and effective use of rewards. Learn about the importance of proper scenario set ups and how to avoid common pitfalls.

Beginning Flyball Workshop

Cost $75 (2 hours)

  • Flyball is a dog sport in which two teams of four dogs race against each other and the clock. The race is composed of heats in which each of these four dogs are required to jump four hurdles, trigger a box that deploys a ball, catch the ball and then retrieve the ball over the hurdles to the start line successfully and in order. Any size breed and mixed breeds are welcome.
  • This class will teach the principles of motivation without force and technical aspects of the sport, including sequence jumping, ball retrieval, and proper box turns. Dogs should have a working knowledge of the basic obedience commands to participate.

Day Training Camp (Reservation Required)

Cost $50/day + cost of boarding/daycare

If you are struggling with minor basic obedience issues or doggie manners, our trainer will come on site to work with your dog while you are away.

  • Training will focus on 1-2 basic manners, in conjunction with daycare or boarding.
  • Trainer will work to enforce basic commands, socialization with other dogs/people, and minor behavioral problems.
  • The trainer will meet with the owner to demonstrate commands learned; confirmed time of pick-up required.

Private Lessons

Evaluation / consultation at any Pappy's Pet Lodge location

Cost $65 (Reservation Required)

1 hour private in-home lesson (basic skills, manners/control, puppy issues)

Cost $100

Perfect for house-soiling, mild food/toy possessiveness, destructiveness, barking, jumping, pulling, or mild territorial issues with strangers/guests. If your life is too hectic, an in-home private lesson may be the answer to teaching your dog how to act properly at home and with people/children, walk properly on leash, and other basic obedience skills.

1 hour private in-home lesson (behavioral issues/training)

Cost $150

If you feel your dog's issues have moved past basic behavior problems, this is an opportunity to sit down with our trainer to properly evaluate and identify the most cost-effective way to help your pet become a better family member. In this session, you will identify how many sessions it may take to improve your dog's behavior and write a targeted training plan for you and your pet. Perfect for pet owners that have specific behavioral issues like: separation anxiety, dogs that can't go for a walk because they are people/pet reactive, dogs that need to learn proper socialization to attend doggie daycare, dogs that cause problems when you have guest(s) in your home, issues with multiple pets in the household, or any other behavioral issues.
